Health Statistics for the Incidence of Cancer |

I was browsing the Internet yesterday looking for health statistics and I ran across the CDC's site where they showed this graphic of the incidence of cancer in the human body. I was shocked to see prostate and breast cancer at the top, and lung cancer third. I can understand the lung cancer statistic, because many of us breathe polluted air by living in cities and a sizable number of people still smoke, but am baffled by how many men and women get prostate and breast cancer. No wonder there are all out efforts by organizations to raise funds for cancer awareness, research, and treatment.
Other health statistics indicate that the mortality from cancer is declining, no doubt in large part to early detection and better treatment. Now there are blood tests that track the amount of cancer cells in the body, and that has helped a great deal with decreasing the mortality rates from cancer. The health statistics point to how important it is for men and women to pay attention to these body parts and look for any changes that should prompt them to see their doctors immediately to get it checked out. |
